How to Use the Daily Update Feature of Google Assistant

Daily update is a feature that lets users receive notifications about updates to your Action on a regular schedule. These notifications appear as Assistant prompts on the user’s device, so it’s important to design them well so that they add value and don’t get ignored.

To enable daily updates, first create a new update for your Action. Then, set the update recurrence and specify the days when you want the update to be deployed. Note that daily updates are only available for mobile devices running Android or iOS (not voice-activated speakers or smart displays).

When you’re ready, test your update using a Google Assistant-enabled device. Invoke your Action and then check the device’s notifications around the time when the update is scheduled to occur.

How to use daily update

Adding daily updates to your Action is easy. But be careful not to overuse this feature: if you prompt users too frequently, they may stop engaging with your Action altogether. Try to only offer a daily update subscription right after you show your users the benefit of your Action, and don’t repeat the prompt elsewhere in the conversation. You can also transition users to a system scene that stops delivering daily updates after they decline your offer.

For example, you could use a daily update to remind workers about shift changes or to share important information about a limited-time sale at your company’s storefront. Or, you might use a weekly update to ask team members to write a quick recap of their plans, progress, and problems each week for reflection and accountability.
